Early in his career Paul heads west after doing missionary work in Arabia and Asia Minor in the environs of Syria and Cilicia (Gal 1:17, 21). Crossing the Aegean Sea he connects with the Egnatian Way and works his way west, stopping at Philippi before arriving at Thessalonica, where he and his coworkers are given a warm reception (1 Thess 1:9; 2:2).
